Your Heating System
Do you know what happens behind the scenes when your thermostat registers air inside is too cold? “Why would I want to know that?” Great question. When we’re on the topic of furnace repair in Calgary your Alberta in general, we want to make sure you’re ‘in the know’ on the basics of heating. This helps you feel comfortable about the decisions you make.
Knowledge is power when it comes to your home comfort system! A furnace in a very basic sense is made up of a heat exchanger, a fan motor and a flame powered by natural gas or propane. When warm air is needed, the flame ignites and heats the heat exchanger, which is a type of metal grid. Then the fan motor kicks on and pulls air from the home via the return air duct(s). The cool air is forced through the heat exchanger, which transfers heat energy to the air.
That’s not all: in the summer when the air conditioner is running, the same furnace fan motor is used to pull warm air from the home to be cooled by chilled refrigerant pumped in from the air conditioner. Variable speed fan motors are whisper quiet, more efficient and provide better comfort. To learn more, or to request furnace repair click & book your repair/maintenance service now.
